Our first meeting will be a consultation, when either Kimberly or I will look at your yard and listen to what is wanted. As we look around we will notice the sun and shade exposures of your yard, the existing trees and foliage, any views of the neighbors, the grade (flat, raised, terraced, etc.) and any other details that will lend themselves to what is to come.
You may have a style in mind: Mediterranean, natural, English garden, Xeriscape, contemporary, etc. You may have no clue of what you want - no problem, that’s why you are hiring a designer. Most of the landscapes that we create are very low maintenance. I have developed a plant palette that delivers color and variety throughout the growing season and into the winter. Your yard will never look “dead,” even in the dead of winter!
Feel free to gather pictures from magazines or books. When you can’t describe what you want, find pictures that can articulate it for you.
For a complicated design a preliminary drawing may be necessary to insure that the plan is developing the way you would like it to. A preliminary sketch is an additional $100.00. Generally only one preliminary drawing is needed, but if more are desired, each one will cost this additional fee.
A deposit of 50% is taken at the first meeting, and the balance is due upon plan completion. When the plan is complete we will go over all the details, the plants, the lighting, the hard surfaces such as the rock, retaining walls and everything else that is included in your plan. We will recommend landscape contractors for you to start getting bids (estimates for the installation of your new garden). If one of our recommended contractors are chosen for the job, then we will be there, at your home, to “stage,” or set the plants, and do a walk-through at the completion of the landscape. We are available throughout the process for information or support.
The cost of a full landscape design with Roberta Walker starts at:
$1,500 per view*
or with Kimberly Marshall:
$ 800. per view*
*”Per view” refers to a “front yard view” or “back yard view” etc. . The sides of the yards are included. “Starts a”’ means that we base our fees on what we consider to be a “normal” sized yard: 30’ x 70’ - roughly. If your yard is very small, then we will adjust our fee to accordingly. If your yard is very large, or you have acreage, the same rule applies. The fee will be discussed at the time of our meeting.
Consultations without a design are also available. You may only need an hour of our time to get a plant list or get the help you need to begin developing a small area of a yard, in which case a one hour consultation will be very comprehensive and informative.
The consultation rate with Roberta Walker is:
$175.00 per hour
or with Kimberly Marshall:
$75.00 per hour
We look forward to meeting with you!
